Public Technology Work and Openness
March 20, 2023
Technology that asks for public attention should give the public a path to understand, use, improve, and collaborate on it. Brian Greenforest calls for open source, open hardware, and global participation as the natural operating model for public technical work.
Work that genuinely requires national-security classification belongs inside its controlled system. Public commercial technology should compete through execution, service, quality, and shared capability.
Choose a Coherent Operating Model
Open projects expose source, interfaces, hardware assumptions, contribution paths, and governance. That visibility lets customers evaluate the system and lets collaborators extend it.
Classified programs protect a different mission through explicit authority and access control. Mixing secret technical dependency with public promotion weakens accountability on both sides.
Build Capitalism Around Shared Capability
Companies can earn through products, manufacturing, integration, hosting, support, certification, and trusted delivery while the underlying knowledge remains available for scrutiny and improvement.
Founders and research leaders can open the parts that create ecosystem value, publish a serious collaboration path, and let global talent help the technology reach its full scale.

(I need to decide this to mysef as well!)
My opinion is very simple: if you're PUBLIC, and people KNOW ABOUT YOUR EXISTENCE, in 2023 you MUST BE OPEN SOURCE, OPEN HARDWARE, and GLOBALLY COLLABORATIVE.
If you tell people that you exist, but you keep your secrets hidden under top secret clearances of our Great Industrial Military complex, you probably are violating the mentioned clearances, and probably have to go to jail for treason. There are "black markets." Stay there. If Sam Altman, Peter Tiel, Elon Musk have mismanaged doing captilalism in the world of Global Security policies... well, they DID MISMANAGE it because of their ego, or a lack of commitment to ether public or top secret.
Jeff Bezos, before his company being passed for our national security and safety purposes, used to NEVER MIX with government.
Again: either open source and do capitalism for public in 2023 the RIGH WAY, or hide, and work for the government!
Do not freaking sit on two chairs!

Those "new systems of management" are called World Government. Transparent. Open. Democratic. While the world has dictators and violence, open source is a farce, and I'd discourage too much of it.
