The sources of inspiration were found in the movies: She Fell From Clouds (1978) on fixing things and replicating physical objects, Prototype (1983) and Short Circuit (1986) on general robotics (and a ton of Soviet books on robotics, programming, and electronics!), Flight of the Navigator (1986) on flying and transforming shapes, Octopuses From the Second Floor (1986) on sentient beings, malleable to have arbitrary functions, Batteries Not Included (1987) on fixing things again, GoBots (1987), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), and Battlestar Galactica (2003 miniseries) as a continuation on malleable thinking matter, Stargate SG-1 5.19 (2002) on self-replicating robots, The Matrix Revolutions (2003) on the vision of an integrated robotic universe, Transcendence (2014) and Space Sweepers (2021) on the best visuals of nanorobots in action.
